Our Location

Whangarei is approximately 2½ hours drive north of Auckland.

As of January 2009, visitors have the choice of using alternative routes to the north via State Highway 1 by choosing to take either the free route which winds around the picturesque Hibiscus coast, or the faster route via the new tunnel/motorway toll road between Silverdale and Warkworth.

By Road

• From Auckland follow State Highway 1 to Whangarei.
• Continue to drive north through the outskirts of the town.
• Turn right into Kensington Ave (signposted Tutukaka Coast and Whangarei Falls)
• You will pass a sports centre and playing fields on your left.
• Continue to follow the signs to Tutukaka and Whangarei Falls.(approx 6 kms)
• The road winds and turns through shopping and housing areas.
• Totara Lodge is 3kms past the turn off to Whangarei Falls on the right.
• You will pass Glenbervie Hall on your right. Start indicating right at the hall.
• The turning into our drive is approximately100m from the hall, on the brow of the hill.
• Totara Lodge is 500m down the right of way road past the macadamian orchard.
• Drive through the trees and we are the double storey house with the orange roof.

From the North

• Follow State Highway 1 to Whangarei until you see the sign for Kamo and the Whangarei Falls.
• Turn right at the sign and follow the road to the first set of traffic lights.
• Turn left at the lights into Station Road and drive for appox.4kms.until you reach a T junction.
• Turn left at the T junction and follow the signs to the Tutukaka Coast and the Whangarei Falls.
• Then follow the directions from Whangarei Falls as above.

From Tutukaka

• Drive through to Ngunguru township and follow the road to Whangarei.
• Totara Lodge is approximately 25mins. drive from Ngunguru on the left hand side of the road just past the Huanui Orchards.

By Air

• There are nine daily flights from Auckland to Whangarei.
• There are rental cars available at the airport (pre book in advance).

If you are driving from the airport:

• Follow the road to Whangarei City Centre.
• Cross the bridge by the Town Basin, turn right and follow the road along the river (Hatea Drive).
• Turn right at the next set of traffic lights and drive up the hill to Tikipunga.
• Turn right at the roundabout and you're on the road to Whangarei Falls.
