About the Lodge

…Many years ago, when family and work commitments kept us busy in Auckland, we had a dream that one day we would escape to the country and change our lifestyle.

This dream materialized in 2004 when, on a visit to family in Northland, we fell in love with a piece of land on the edge of the Glenbervie Forest where we decided to build our Homestay.

Totara Lodge was purpose built for Homestay guests in 2005 and derives its name from the surrounding two and a half acres of mature Totara trees. A perfect setting for rest and relaxation.

Our five bed roomed two storey house has exclusive accommodation for up to four guests in queen-size rooms with ensuite bathrooms on the ground floor.

The spacious L-shaped lounge/dining room has bifold doors which open up two sides of the room to the garden allowing easy access on warm sunny days.

During the cooler months this room is warmed by a wood effect gas fire. Guests can relax on our comfy leather sofas and enjoy watching Sky TV and movies on the big screen or read and listen to music. We have a variety of books, magazines, and DVDs available for guests to use either in the lounge or in the privacy of their own rooms if desired.

We are gradually making progress with cultivating the wilderness into gardens around the lodge. Last year we completed a large pond and waterfall project. This year we hope to carry on with creating new areas for our guests enjoyment.

Breakfast is usually served in the dining room or on the patio during fine weather. Our breakfast menu includes fruit juice, fresh seasonal fruit, yoghourt, cereals and toast accompanied by a selection of jams, marmalade, and honey. This can be followed by a cooked option featuring free range eggs and manuka smoked bacon. Choose from a selection of teas or plunger coffee.

If you would like to share our company for the evening please join us for dinner. Our dinner menu includes a pre-dinner drink and nibbles followed by a two course meal which could include NZ lamb or fish .and fresh seasonal fruit and vegetables.

During the summer months we like to entertain our guests outside.
Relax with a drink and enjoy the view while we cook you a succulent steak on the barbecue followed by a delicious dessert.

In addition we offer a selection of NZ wines and beers at a reasonable cost.
Dinner is available by prior arrangement only.

Alternatively, if dining out is your preference, there are many excellent cafes and restaurants in the local area only a short distance by car and we are only too happy to make reservations for you if required.
